EMILY LEVINE, DVM, DACVB (Veterinary Behaviorist)

DIPLOMATE OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF VETERINARY BEHAVIORISTS

Dr. Emily Levine started her career at The College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University graduating in 2000. She completed a one-year internship at a specialty medical and surgical referral hospital in Arizona, followed by a residency in animal behavior at The Cornell University Hospital for Animals. After completing her residency, Dr. Levine moved to England where she ran the behavior clinic at the University of Lincoln, participated in clinical behavior research, and worked as an instructor. Dr. Levine then spent 13 years at the Animal Emergency and Referral Associates in Fairfield NJ where she was the director of the behavior service. She has authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks, as well as co-edited international proceedings on behavior research. She is currently working on a children’s book to help teach young children (and their parents) how to safely live with dogs. She enjoys learning about each pet she sees and their human caretakers!

Dennis Bailey, DVM, Diplomate, ACVIM (Oncology)

Dr. Bailey received his DVM from Cornell University, completed an internship at North Carolina State University, and a residency in Oncology at Cornell University. He is a Diplomate of the ACVIM in Oncology, and he spent the last two years on the clinical faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. Dr. Bailey’s professional interests include managing chemotherapy and pain management. He enjoys playing tennis and watching football. (Buffalo Bills). He has two cats, Laverne and Shirley.

June Hacker-Traiger, VMD, CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner)

 Dr. Hacker graduated from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital and remained on staff. She enjoys working with exotic animals. She sees appointments at both Oradell Animal Hospital and our Ft. Lee, New Jersey office. Dr. Hacker’s hobbies include reading and bicycling. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Dr. Heather Troyer (Acupuncture, Hospice/Palliative Care)

Heather Troyer, DVM, DABVP (Board Specialized in Canine and Feline Practice), CVA, (Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist), CVPP (Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner)

Dr. Troyer graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. She completed a one-year internship at the Animal Medical Center in NY, NY from 2001-2002 and joined the staff at Oradell Animal Hospital in 2005 as a member of the general medicine and surgery group. In 2008, Dr. Troyer became board certified through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice (general medicine and surgery), which awards specialty certification to practitioners who demonstrate expertise above and beyond what is required to practice veterinary medicine. In 2009, Dr. Troyer helped to create the Oradell CARES program. Oradell CARES is designed to assist families and patients with hospice and care giver support issues through both in-home evaluation and out-patient management. In addition, Dr. Troyer was awarded certification in veterinary acupuncture through the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida, in 2010, and completed additional curricula in Tui-Na, a unique form of massage specific for Traditional Chinese Medicine. She most recently rounded out her education by becoming a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner through the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management in 2014. She practices integrative medicine, especially in cases where quality of life issues are paramount, and practices both out-patient and in-home pain management using both eastern and western techniques. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her children, running, and cooking. She frequently writes for medical journals such as Clinician’s Brief and Veterinary Team Brief, and actively promotes continuing education at our hospital through lectures and wet labs, and promotion of student externship programs.

Andrew Farabaugh, Veterinary Specialist DVM, DACVIM (Neurology)

Dr. Farabaugh is originally from New Jersey where he received an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in 1991. Following a short career in juvenile justice in Washington State, he returned to Rutgers University in 1999 and completed a degree in Animal Science in 2001. He then went on to graduate with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. After graduation from Tufts, he completed a one-year small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship, followed by a three-year medical and surgical neurology residency at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. He remained at Angell as a staff neurologist until moving to Southern New Hampshire Veterinary Referral Hospital in 2012. This was followed by a position at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey in 2014, where he remained on staff until joining the VCA South Shore team in 2019. 
 
Dr. Farabaugh is board certified through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the specialty of Neurology. His professional interests include auto-immune diseases of the central nervous system and surgical techniques for stabilization and reconstruction of the spine and skull using 3-D printing of surgical models and templates.

Jonathan Goodwin, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology)

Dr. Jonathan Goodwin, a native of Michigan, joined GSVS as a cardiologist in 2008. Dr. Goodwin completed his cardiology residency at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. He became a Diplomate of American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2009. Jonathan is a 1999 graduate of Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Goodwin has scheduled appointments on alternating weekdays; Tuesday thru Friday or Wednesday thru Saturday. Although Dr. Goodwin does not see all emergencies himself, emergent care is available 24/7 for cardiac emergencies. The GSVS emergency doctor will contact Dr. Goodwin when they deem appropriate to consult on a case if he is not in the hospital. The referring veterinarian will receive a report from Dr. Goodwin within 24 hours of the patient’s appointment at GSVS.

Dr. Carlos Rice (Veterinary Dentist)

The founder of Veterinary Dentistry Specialists, Dr. Rice is a board-certified veterinary dental specialist and Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC), with a strong track record of both academic and professional achievement.

He completed an internship in dentistry and oral surgery at Florida-based All Pets Dental Clinic under the mentorship of renowned veterinary dentist Dr. Jan Bellows, former president of the AVDC. He then completed and academic residency at the University of Wisconsin under the mentorship of Dr. William Gengler, also a former president of the AVDC. Dr. Rice then became the attending clinician of the dentistry and oral surgery service at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Rice has authored several research publications, lectures nationally and internationally on topics relating to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the mouth and face of dogs and cats.

In his free time, he is an avid cyclist and follows competitive cycling feverishly. He is an avid outdoorsman who also enjoys following the English Premier League and racquet sports including racquets and squash.

Christopher F. Stancel, DVM (Avian/Exotic Medicine) 

Dr. Stancel originally grew up in Nutley, New Jersey and always knew he wanted to be a veterinarian. While attending high school and college he worked for a local pet store, a farm, and a small zoo in the Newark Museum where he loved caring for the animals. He graduated from Rutgers University- Cook College with a B.S. in Animal Science. Approximately 3 years prior to attending veterinary school, Dr. Stancel worked for the Dog, Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley as a veterinary technician. There he gained not only a wealth of knowledge of veterinary medicine but also close relation with Dr. Crupi and his wife.

Dr. Stancel graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in January 2004. While there he received multiple community service awards as Vice President/President, Website manager and treasurer of People for the Animal Welfare on St. Kitts (P.A.W.S) before completing his last clinical year at Louisiana State University. During his clinic year he received a large amount of training in the field of Avian, Exotic, Wildlife and Zoo medicine. As a veterinarian, he worked at Central Veterinary Associates in NY followed by the Ridgewood Veterinary Hospital in NJ. In 2013, Dr Stancel decided to rejoin the family at the Dog, Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley but this time as a fellow veterinarian.

Dr. Stancel tends to dogs and cats but has a focus on Avian and Exotic Medicine and would like to complete board certification in Avian, Reptile and Exotic Mammal Medicine. He also has a special interest in surgery, endoscopy and ultrasound.

Dr. Stancel’s professional memberships include the Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Association of Sugar Glider Veterinarians, New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, and American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Stancel and his fiancée Maria have a spunky chihuahua named Dobby, a lovable Boxer mix named Cheerio, 3 cats: Lola, Lil’ C, and L.B., and many reptiles including lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises. Dr. John Cataldi (Avian/Exotic Medicine) 

Dr. John Cataldi has more than 36 years of experience. He was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and was voted the “Favorite Veterinarian” by the Herald News poll. He is a member of the A.V.M.A. and N.J.V.M.A.
